About the deal
On 30 April 2025 MyDawa announced a $9.6M funding round led by Denmark’s Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), with participation from existing backers Alta Semper Capital, AAIC Investment (follow-on from its 2019 Series A), Creadev and Japanese drugmaker Ohara Pharmaceutical. The round supports physical and digital expansion following the company’s 2023 $20M investment from Alta Semper and acquisitions of Guardian Health in Uganda and later Rocket Health.
Proceeds are earmarked for opening approximately 40 new pharmacies (30 in Uganda, 10 in Kenya), enhancing the AI-driven digital platform, scaling chronic-disease management programs, optimizing inventory and reducing costs for patients. The investment reinforces MyDawa’s position as a leading integrated “bricks-and-clicks” healthcare provider in East Africa, with over 1.8 million patients served in 2024.
LoftyInc Capital lists MyDawa in its portfolio (investment circa 2021) and the company remains active as of 2026.

About MyDawa
MyDawa operates a bricks-and-clicks model combining an e-commerce platform for medicines, health and wellness products with a growing network of physical pharmacies. It provides online doctor consultations, e-prescriptions, laboratory testing, chronic disease management programs and medication delivery. The company serves patients directly in Kenya and Uganda, where it expanded via the 2023 acquisition of Guardian Health (pharmacy chain) and later Rocket Health (telehealth provider). It has also acquired The Medical Concierge Group.
The business model integrates digital tools (including AI for inventory and service optimization) with physical infrastructure to reduce costs in the fragmented pharmaceutical supply chain, improve access to quality medication and professional care, and support chronic care for thousands of patients. In 2024 it reported serving over 1.8 million patients and enrolling more than 5,000 in chronic-disease programs. It aims to scale further across East Africa.

Use of funds
- Roll-out of 30 new pharmacies in Uganda and 10 in Kenya
- Development and integration of AI features for service delivery and inventory management
- Scaling chronic-disease support and telehealth capabilities
- Expansion of online pharmacy capacity and regional footprint
Considerations
- Regulatory complexity across pharmaceutical licensing, telehealth and cross-border operations in Kenya and Uganda
- Currency and macroeconomic volatility affecting import costs for medicines and investor returns
- Competition from other digital pharmacies, telehealth providers and traditional retail chains
- Execution risk in scaling physical pharmacy network while maintaining quality and profitability
- Reliance on repeat funding and strategic investors in a capital-intensive healthcare model
