About the deal

Sylndr closed a $15.7 million Series A equity round on or around 20 May 2025. The round was led by Development Partners International (DPI) Venture Capital through its Nclude Fund, with participation from existing and new investors including Algebra Ventures, Nuwa Capital, Raed Ventures, Uncovered Fund, Beltone Venture Capital, Camel Ventures, and Egyptian Gulf Holding. This follows a $12.6M pre-seed in 2022 (one of the largest for an African startup at the time) and approximately $7.5M in debt/working capital facilities in 2024 from Egyptian banks.

The capital will support national geographic expansion across Egypt's governorates, technology and product development (pricing intelligence, inventory, financing scale), deeper ecosystem partnerships with dealers, banks, and service providers, and growth of its newer verticals in financing, services, and dealer tools. The company has evolved from an inventory-heavy used-car reseller to an integrated mobility platform addressing trust, financing, and operational gaps in Egypt's automotive market.

Sylndr reports strong growth, with sales up nearly 10x and revenue (in EGP) up 22x since 2022. Newer verticals are expected to drive a higher share of gross profit going forward, reducing reliance on inventory.

About Sylndr

Sylndr operates an e-commerce marketplace focused on the used-car sector in Egypt. The platform enables customers to buy and sell vehicles transparently with professional inspections, detailed reports, 360° photography, warranties on owned inventory, and seamless ownership transfer. It has expanded into a full mobility ecosystem with Sylndr Swift (digital automotive financing connecting buyers to lenders with approvals in under 10 minutes), Sylndr Plus (vehicle inspection, maintenance, and servicing), and Al-Ajans (dealer-to-consumer marketplace and growth tools).

The company serves individual consumers and a network of over 1,000 dealers nationwide. Its business model combines inventory-led sales (buying, refurbishing, and reselling cars) with a growing asset-light marketplace and high-margin recurring revenue from financing facilitation, services, and dealer tools. Sales have grown nearly 10x since 2022, with significant revenue increases reported in local currency.

Sylndr aims to digitize and bring trust, liquidity, and infrastructure to Egypt's large but fragmented used-vehicle market through technology, real-time pricing intelligence, and integrated finance and services.

Founders: Omar El Defrawy (Co-founder & CEO), Amr Mazen (Co-founder), Andrew Morcos (Co-founder & COO)

Use of funds

  • Accelerate geographic expansion to all major Egyptian governorates
  • Invest in technology for improved pricing intelligence, inventory selection, and financing scale
  • Expand product portfolio including financing, services, and dealer solutions
  • Deepen partnerships with dealers, financial institutions, and service providers
  • Scale operations while shifting toward higher-margin, asset-light revenue streams

Considerations

  • High competition in Egypt's used-car and mobility space from local and regional players
  • Macroeconomic volatility and currency depreciation in Egypt impacting vehicle affordability and financing
  • Regulatory changes in automotive, consumer finance, or data/privacy sectors
  • Execution risk in scaling multiple new verticals (financing facilitation, services, dealer tools) while managing inventory
  • Reliance on bank partnerships for financing products and potential asset quality or credit risk exposure
